You’ve had enough of working late nights, long weekends and getting pretty much nothing in return, apart from a deep resentment for the agency and people you work for.
The creative director doesn’t like your work, or, if he/she does, the account people can’t sell your work, so the client constantly rejects it…

Tough times call for innovative measures.
There’s a plethora of top talent currently out there looking to hook up with businesses to help those businesses keep their businesses flowing.
Enter The JobVine.

The JobVine is easy: Simply keep your friends and close contacts in the loop about possible jobs and freelance opportunities that you hear about.
Also post job titles of those who you currently know are looking to get more freelance work or who are wanting to change jobs.
This will build up a picture (or ‘vine’) of the talent that is currently out there to be picked by those who need it.

Evian brings back “proper skates”, old skool tunes and funky babies in this gorgeous TV ad.

Wish I’d written it!

Each creative director from Portfolio Night was sent a small questionnaire to fill out regarding what we were expecting from Portfolio Night, what advice we could give to the students and what it was like for us when we started out as juniors.

Here are my answers.

June 11th 2009 – 7 p.m.

Gathered inside the Amsterdam offices of Sid Lee, the next generation of young creatives got to met a bunch of us creative directors to show their work and get valuable feedback. The event went brilliantly and I’m sure some creatives will get jobs from the meetings that they had.

Personally for me, I got to meet:

Two great creative teams from the UK, a talented team from Italy, a Dutch designer with a lovely idea for a board game, a Dutch creative team who will be snapped up in no time, a Portuguese copywriter who really wants a new art partner, a Danish copywriter with some great fresh thinking and a Portuguese art director who will have a great book if he just tweaks it a tad further.

I also got to meet and talk with Ignacio Oreamuno from ihaveanidea.org. who was a key figure in getting this successful night up and running. For more information on what all the fuss is/was about at Portfolio Night go to the Portfolio Night website.

Hollywood is obsessed with long legs, which are considered a standard of beautiful figure. That’s the reason we often see celebrities wearing high-waisted pants and skirts, which create an illusion that their legs start higher. For the same reason short shirts, jackets and coats are favorite in Hollywood.
Let’s not allow Hollywood fool us any more with their visual tricks, and expose how short celebrity legs really are. Photoshop celebrities and politicians with really short legs…

This demo — from Pattie Maes‘ lab at MIT, spearheaded by Pranav Mistry — was the buzz of TED. It’s a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for profound interaction with our environment. Imagine “Minority Report” and then some.

This is an amazing short animation. Beautifully simple in its idea, execution and context. Hats off to all those involved in creating this gorgeous five minute gem and bringing it to light.

The Muziekgebouw is a gorgeous music venue in Amsterdam, but tourists don’t know this as they usually pass it by without giving it a second glance.

To show what is on offer inside the building I propose that the venue send music into the air by anchoring large helium filled music notes on to the roof or on the front terrace to visually attract tourists.
